Marilyn Smith is excited to be one of the founding board members for Gifts with Grace. Her focus within the ministry is in developing curriculum to train our mentors; she is preparing practical plans for how GwG connects mentors with mentees. Marilyn is also learning about the various social service agencies around Logan County that are able to meet the needs of our mentees.
Marilyn has been a resident of Logan County all her life. She grew up on a farm outside of
DeGraff, and in 1992 graduated from Indian Lake High School. Growing up, she saw her parents routinely give and serve others with joy as an expression of their faith. This has inspired her to do the same as she raises her daughter and son. Marilyn serves in many ways in her church through music, leading small groups, with teaching, and more. She and her family also actively give and volunteer in the community.
Marilyn is in her 19th year of teaching with Bellefontaine City Schools. She is currently a seventh-grade teacher who loves her students. As a teacher she sees firsthand how a woman working to overcome trauma can impact their children through the lives of her students. There are moms of some of her students who could greatly benefit from what Gifts with Grace offers.
A few years ago, Marilyn began her own journey with trauma in a battle with lymphoma. Marilyn knows it was her faith that gave her the strength to push through to victory. She is in her eighth year of remission, but understands how that trauma impacted her children and loved ones tremendously.
Marilyn is passionate about helping women who are overcoming trauma, and empowering them to become the best version of themselves in a supportive and Christian environment. She is confident Gifts with Grace will impact not only our ladies, but also many people in their lives. Marilyn cannot wait to see the ripple effect Gifts with Grace will have on changing lives throughout our community.
